CAICE has partnered with a variety of domestic and international educational institutions and programs to help spread the educational opportunities afforded through our Center.   Our Center strives to improve science education at all levels — we have been partnered with elementary and high schools, improving science lab activities, after-school sessions, and classroom projects.

The Center for Aerosol Impacts on Climate and the Environment (CAICE) strives to support and promote diversity as a part of the center’s mission and goals. CAICE supports the engagement of individuals from groups underrepresented in the STEM fields by inclusiveness in research, education, and outreach. In May 2015, Dr. Haim Weizman and Becky Hames, both members of the CAICE Education, Outreach and Diversity Committee, participated in an NSF Centers for Chemical Innovation Diversity Workshop.  An executive summary of the two-day workshop can be found here.

One focus of CAICE education and outreach activities is ‘Learning Science through Environmental Measurements.’  Learners of all ages and abilities can use an array of tools and instruments to learn about the world in which they live.  Just as PhD-level scientists make detailed measurements of the chemistry of Earth’s atmosphere, so can elementary school students use simpler tools measure air pollutants in their classroom and work together to find ways to clean up the air they breathe every day!

Another educational outreach activity that is unique to CAICE is the CLEAR Program, which is designed to bring the research and science of CAICE to the public. CLEAR is an educational initiative that is designed to engage students in learning about the chemistry of aerosols, climate, and the environment by encouraging collaboration and experimentation.
