Postdoctoral and Staff Opportunities

CAICE is often looking for talented and dedicated people to carry its mission forward. We are operating at the cutting edge of many chemical and environmental issues, and provides opportunities for professional development through strong mentorship, training, and access to resources.

If  you are interested in pursuing a postdoctoral position with CAICE, please contact the Faculty member(s) whose work is of most interest.  In addition, we also host an Inquiry Form: information provided will be forwarded to the selected faculty.

Postdoc: Spectroscopy on Suspended Aerosol Particles

CAICE is currently looking for a highly motivated and talented individual for a Postdoctoral Fellow position at UC San Diego. The fellow will conduct research under the supervision of Profs. Wei Xiong and Robert Continetti. The research focus for this position is highly interdisciplinary. The fellow will develop novel time-resolved spectroscopic techniques to study the surface properties, morphology of isolated nanoparticles in the gas phase under the impact of radiation. Experimental techniques including aerodynamic lens systems and electrodynamic balances will be used to prepare isolated gas-phase aerosols for investigation. Individuals with experience in areas including ultrafast spectroscopy, ultrahigh vacuum techniques, molecular beams and radiofrequency ion traps are strongly encouraged to apply. The fellow will also have the opportunity to practice leadership, collaboration and communication skills by mentoring graduate and undergraduate researchers as well as establishing collaborations with other CAICE scientists.

This position is currently available, the start-date is flexible, but an early start is preferred. The initial appointment will be on one-year basis, with the opportunity for renewal contingent on funding and performance. A Ph.D in chemistry, physics, environmental science or related engineering fields is required. To apply, please email as a pdf your C.V., a letter of interest, and the names of three references w2xiong@ucsd.edu, and rcontinetti@ucsd.edu. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

Graduate Research

Each year, faculty members associated with CAICE accept bright, curious, and driven graduate students through the graduate programs in their respective departments. If you are interested in the research being conducted by a particular group within CAICE, you are encouraged to reach out to that group directly by email. In addition, the link below contains an inquiry form that when completed will be forwarded to the relevant CAICE faculty.

Summer Research for Undergraduates

CAICE operates a summer research program for undergraduate students during each summer, with participants at multiple universities associated with the Center. Students are encouraged to apply formally through our website between November 1st and February 1st.
