Prof. Mario Molina Honored with Medal of Freedom

CAICE member to be honored with nation’s highest civilian award.

President Barack Obama announced today that CAICE member and UC San Diego Distinguished Professor Mario Molina will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom on the 50th Anniversary of our nation’s highest civilian honor.  Prof. Molina received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1995 for his work in elucidating the chemical mechanism of ozone depletion in the stratosphere, sharing the prize with his mentor, the late Prof. F. Sherwood Rowland and Prof. Paul Crutzen.  Prof. Molina has been an active member of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology since President Obama’s first term in office, and has served on the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).  The members of CAICE congratulate Prof. Molina on his monumental contributions to chemistry and climate, as we look forward to continuing our collective efforts to learn more in the years to come.
