Spreading the Science of CAICE to South and Central America

Professor Kim Prather and Professor Skip Pomeroy held a workshop as part of the Institute of the Americas (IoA) STEM Teacher’s workshop. The workshop, held annually through IoA allows teachers from Central and South America to come to UC San Diego to experience, “a wide range of science experiences to help them discover their grasp within the innovative world of science and reestablishes the importance of an interdisciplinary methodology based on practical skills”.

Kim gave a lecture on CAICE and the impact of aerosol chemistry in the environment, while Skip taught a hands on demonstration of CAICE’s chemistry and climate kit activities for the teachers to take back and use in their won classrooms. By participating in this event, they were able to explain the current state of aerosol chemistry and expand the reach of CAICE activities to countries south of the boarder. Through teaching teachers, CAICE is able to maximize our impact and broaden our reach.
